About Ruth
Ruth has a BA in Drama from Trinity College Dublin. She also studied for two years at École Jacques Lecoq in Paris where she completed their two year specialised programme in Physical Theatre. It was at École Jacques Lecoq that Ruth became interested in the relevance of physical awareness, how we present and express ourselves, in everyday life. The analysis and control of body language is recognised as an essential skill in the business world.
Ruth’s unique range of experience makes her workshops highly interactive, fun and energising.
the clown within weekend workshop
Friday 9th – Sunday 11th august
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.” – Martha Graham.
This inspirational workshop is led by expert Ruth Lehane and influenced by both European & Native American approaches to clown.
The Focus: This workshop focuses on the freedom given by the red nose which allows us to discover more about who we really are in essence, at our core. When we drop the accumulated perceptions of who we think we should be, a door opens to a place where we can reveal our true selves without judgement and where anything can happen.
The Aim: Through various preparatory exercises influenced by both European and Native American approaches to clown, the participants will access the many colours of their individual palette and allow them to shine through, for example; light/darkness; joy/pain; frivolity/seriousness; disappointment and delight. Once the various facets of the clown are discovered, we can then bring them to a state of play.
Ruth’s unique range of experience makes her workshops exciting, challenging, inspirational and fun!

The Breathing Space studio
This large, light-filled space has commanding views over the Barrow River and surrounding forests, as well as the 7th century monastic settlement of St Mullins itself. Although it was designed specifically to function as a yoga studio and mediatation space, it supports multiple uses. It features a special infra red heating system and a full complement of yoga equipment.
The food experience on the retreat
At Mulvarra, we are very excited about food. Excited about where it comes from, how it is grown, how it is prepared, who you eat it with. As we are still in the early stages of developing Mulvarra and its Breathing Space, we are currently using fresh ingredients and organic food where we can but in the future we will grow our own food.We generally stick to vegetarian cooking in Mulvarra, although we are flexible and also cater to a variety of dietary restrictions. Vegetarian cooking is so versatile, you really don’t miss that piece of meat on your plate when it’s not there. Whatever your thoughts are on the topic, there is no denying that the meat production in most countries is not sustainable and certainly not animal friendly. When we do, very occasionally, prepare meat dishes we make sure it’s organically sourced
