Your teacher:
Ciara Cunningham

Practicing yoga for over 30 years, Ciara experiences the transformative power of yoga working on many levels.  It connects us physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Through our awareness in and exploration of our physical movements, we develop a new understanding of ourselves and our limitations.  We come to recognise self-imposed barriers which inhibit our full potential. Ciara considers herself fortunate to have completed her 200 hour teacher training with Yoga Room in Dublin and a further 300 hour teacher training in Mysore India.  Her teaching style is informed by her practice experience and training in Hatha yoga with Iyengar/alignment influences, Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Sivananda.

Restore and Re-energise Spring Retreat

Friday 28th – Sunday 30th March

As spring approaches it is time to move our attention slowly outward but also take stock of our state of being.  At the beautiful location of Mulvarra house and surrounding Barrow Valley we experience the space for self-study and reflective yoga practice.

Throughout our weekend of yoga we will focus on developing presence and awareness, fostering acceptance of what is. Bringing self-compassion through working with the body in asana practice and meditation we will deepen our sense of connection. Yoga practice has the power to change us on various levels, working on our physiological systems and on our energy centres and channels, helping to create balance and produce healing.  In our retreat we will explore the balance between sthira and sukkha, effort and ease, and get to the core of what we each need most at this time of the year and at this moment of our lives. Listening to the body we can discover our own correct balance between activating energy and relaxation. This is assisted by space and time to breathe, flow and meditate, as well as the nourishing wholesome food at Mulvarra house. The weekend retreat offers the opportunity to connect not only with ourselves, but also with others through our collective practice and free time.

The Breathing Space studio

This large, light-filled space has commanding views over the Barrow River and surrounding forests, as well as the 7th century monastic settlement of St Mullins itself.  Although it was designed specifically to function as a yoga studio and mediatation space,  it supports multiple uses. It features  a special infra red heating system and a full complement of yoga equipment.

The food experience on the retreat

At Mulvarra, we are very excited about food. Excited about where it comes from, how it is grown, how it is prepared, who you eat it with. As we are still in the early stages of developing Mulvarra and its Breathing Space, we are currently using fresh ingredients and organic food where we can but in the future we will grow our own food.We generally stick to vegetarian cooking in Mulvarra, although we are flexible and also cater to a variety of dietary restrictions. Vegetarian cooking is so versatile, you really don’t miss that piece of meat on your plate when it’s not there. Whatever your thoughts are on the topic, there is no denying that the meat production in most countries is not sustainable and certainly not animal friendly. When we do, very occasionally, prepare meat dishes we make sure it’s organically sourced
